Corona Virus which is commonly called as Covid 19 is an infectious disease, which

causes illness in the respiratory system in the humans. which has been spreading across
the world. It is identified from Wuhan city in China. It created the most unexpected crises
and lockdown among the world. It is officially declared as a pandemic by World Health
Organization (WHO).
It spreads among the human through small droplets generated from the nose or mouth
by cough or sneeze of the infected person. The Covid infected patient may have some
symptoms such as cold, fever, dry cough and breathing problems. Apart from these
symptoms like sore throat muscle pain, loss of taste or smell can also be seen in the
Corona Virus patients. But recent researches point that some of the patients may not have
any symptoms. Therefore, we must be aware of them.
There are large number of death reported due to this virus. Also it causes severe
economic and social impacts around the world. It also affects education, job opportunities
and creates depression. All schools, colleges and universities were closed until further
notice. Factories, garments and companies did not continue their works. It led the world
into many crises.
Though there is no medicine for this virus, we can take some precautionary measures.
We can take hot drinking water, wear face masks, wash hands with sanitizer, gargle
mouth with salt water, avoid unnecessary travelling and stay safe at home and take
healthy foods. Let us all fight back against this disease and put an end to this pandemic.

The environment forms a very important aspects of human life. It consists land, water
and air. Our environment is our assets therefore; we should not lose the beauty of our

not be possible for us to live. The various types of pollution are Water pollution, soil
pollution, noise pollution, land pollution, air pollution, etc. The contaminants of the
environment are called pollutants.
The main pollutants come from industries because the factories release harmful and
poisonous gases in the atmosphere. This the cause of air pollution. The industrial wastes
are also dumped into water bodies, causing water pollution. The other pollutant
responsible for pollution is the smoke from burning, greenhouse gasses emission like
carbon dioxide which is high in cities in our Country.
Environmental pollution increases global warming day by day, so the ice in polar
region is melting and the harmful gases are also emitting and destroying the whole earth.
The animals have endangered; the plants are also dying. Cutting of trees is one of the
reasons for environmental pollution. So instead of cutting trees, we should plant more
and more trees to enhance the beauty of Earth.
It is the responsibility and commitment of every citizen of our country to preserve and
protect our environment from getting polluted. There is another duty also that we should
not dump the waste materials in the river or seawater. We should dispose them in the
effective way. Reduce, reuse and recycle policy should be implemented from the
household level then it will be more beneficial to us.

Public properties are what people of a country own and use it for our benefits. For
example, we walk on road, use electricity, public parks and grounds, hospital, libraries,
government offices, etc. These are all built with public money that is from the taxes we
pay. And also the government is responsible for maintaining this property. As well as the
people also should maintain them in proper way.

When people of a country destroy the public properties, it will not be easy to replace
them. it is seen that people use water and electricity in the public transport, they remove
parts of public transport like buses and railways. They steal or damage bulbs and fans in
trains and buses.

We do not use public toilets properly. We throw garbage on the road and spit on it
while walking. Other people have to suffer because of this antisocial behaviour.
Sometimes electric, telephone and lines are cut and destroyed. As a result of this,
everyone suffers as communication gets disrupted.

The reason for why people destroy, or steal public property or why they use it
carelessly most of the time, it has been found that people destroy it to express their anger
and frustration. When people are angry about something they organize a protest, they
burn and destroy something. It causes many problems for other people. As they cannot
reach their offices, factories or schools in time, many valuable working hours are lost.
This causes great loss to the country.

Therefore, as good citizens of the country, it is our duty to use the public properties as
carefully as we use our own things. Its misuse causes inconvenience to everybody,
including ourselves. We must develop a sense of cooperation in having a comfortable and
happy life. We all must work together, contribute funds by paying taxes on time and have
a sense of responsibility to preserve conveniences which exist for the benefit of all
otherwise the government will impose the strict laws and legal punishments on us.

The advancements in technology have changed our lives in several ways,

including how we communicate, how we do business, how we run our social and

Internet has made the world a real global village which permits us to travel by
looking at the online map, pay bills or do the shopping without going out from our houses.
We can read newspapers, play games or even plan our holidays. A huge merit of Internet is
a possibility to download music and films in no time. Especially, during lockdown period
internet helped a lot to conduct many online classes such as Zoom and WhatsApp.
We can also communicate with other people from all over the world by means of
programs like Facebook, Viber, and Instagram. We can join a chat group and share our
special interests with each other. A very useful thing is an electronic mail, because it is
faster than ordinary regular post and even air mail. Internet offers a lot of information
from every branch of knowledge, so we can find everything for our schoolwork or job
there, or just find more about our hobbies.
Unfortunately, Internet has several drawbacks, especially in developing countries
like Sri Lanka and India. In our country internet is still too expensive and connections are
not fast. Generally, one disadvantage of the Internet is a danger of getting addicted. Other
bad point of internet are some web sites which are not suitable for children, for example
sites about violence, sex and online games. Sitting too much time with internet cause to
less active and it leads to many health problems.
Therefore, Internet has more good and bad impacts and also it depends the way
we use it. In addition to that, I suggest that it has to improve further because the future
will be benefitted still better.

Online education is electronically supported learning that depend on the Internet for
teacher and student interaction. Online education has become a popular channel for many
students now a day. it is very popular during the lockdown period due to Covid 19.
Schools, colleges and universities has turned to online teaching from the traditional
classroom teaching. The fact shows that some of the students only can understand their
lesson since majority of them are not aware about it. Therefore, we must first understand
the pros and cons of online teaching.

Online learning has not only advantages but also disadvantages. Online method of
education is advantageous for many reasons. First of all, it is a very convenience medium
to tech the subjects like history, language and business studies. A human can use a
computer access and Internet connection anywhere, for example, at home, outdoor or
even on a bus.

This benefit is especially important for people who live in remote and rural areas and
they find difficult to access to their school. However, it is also useful for parents who
want to teach their children at home. Moreover, online learning is cheaper than traditional
classroom as some of the teachers are teaching lesson with free of charge.

On the other hand, online learning has the negative aspects. To begin with, lack of
social interaction between teacher and a student. It prevents the effective learning and
leads to failure of the lesson. Some of the teachers conduct the online classrooms and
they charge high amount. Thus, it directly affects the poor students who unable to afford
the expenses. Furthermore, the only method of communication of online learning is
through e-mail, chat room or discussion groups. People cannot interact with others to face
to face. It is the barrier to build the social relationship between peer groups among
teenagers. Therefore, students do not see and feel relationship with classmates and
feedbacks.
Therefore, the online education will be more benefitted when it considers all types of
students such as poor and weaker students. And also the accessing facilities should be
provided by the stake holders. In addition, it must be promoted in all over the area in a
country. Then only the results will be positive.

variety of reading materials among us. We can choose books, magazines, journals,
newspapers, fictions, nonfictions and etc. Good books can inform us, enlighten us and
lead us in the right direction. There is no better companion than a good book. Reading is
important because it is good for our overall well-being.
My dear friends, Reading is relaxing and it improves our thinking process.
Reading is a popular hobby among many people because it gives knowledge and
pleasure. Reading develops language skills and vocabulary. Reading books is also a way
to relax and reduce stress. It is important to read a good book at least for a few minutes
each day to stretch the brain muscles for healthy functioning.
My dear teachers and friends, in modern society, people do not have enough time
to read because of a busy life. We get pleasure by reading novels and short stories. We
can learn good qualities of great persons by reading their biographies.
Therefore, my dear friends, I would like to conclude that, there is truth in this
great saying of Francis Bacon. Reading helps us to acquire knowledge on many subjects.
Apart from that we can get mental satisfaction from reading. In addition, the habit of
reading is one of the best qualities that a person can possess. Books are known to be our best
friend for a reason. So it is very important to develop a good reading habit. We all must read
on a daily basis for at least 30 minutes to enjoy the sweet fruits of reading. It is a great
pleasure to sit in a quiet place and enjoy reading. Reading a good book is the most enjoyable
experience one can have.

suffering, or failure. Therefore, we must understand this truth in our life.

challenges. A person who has not encountered difficulties in life can never achieve
success. Difficulties test the courage, patience, perseverance, and true character of a
human being. Adversity and hardships make a person strong and ready to face the

My dear friends, as we are in schooling we have to face many problems like
exam, assignments and poverty. But we should not be away from these all. We can take

Road accidents have become very common nowadays. As more and people are
buying motor bike and cars, road accidents are just increasing day by day. Furthermore,

Especially in big cities, there are various modes of transports. Moreover, the roads are
becoming narrower and the cities have become more populated.
Thus, when we read newspaper we will find at least one or two news about road
accidents daily. They cause loss of life as well as material. People need to be more careful
when they are on the road, no matter which mode of transport we use but we must be careful
even we are only as pedestrian.

Therefore, to minimize common road accidents like car and motor bike crashes, there
are several precautionary road safety steps that can be taken. We make sure that we
always wear seat belts when we travel. Furthermore, Carelessness of drivers is the major
cause of road accident. Hence, speaking on the phone while driving should be prohibited.
Frequent Health checkup must be carried by the motor traffic department of the eye
vision of drivers. Police should monitor the drivers in order to avoid drunken driving.

Another way to prevent the road accidents is imposing law enforcement on road rules.
They are, knowing the signals and paying attention to them, using sidewalks and
pedestrian crossings. We must ensure that we know the rules and laws of our country and
ensure that we have a valid approved driving license. In addition, government must
control the private number of vehicles in order to use the public transport. Further
constructing flyovers, safety roads and bridges is also one of the way to control the road
accidents.

Mobile Phone is also called “cellular phone”. It is a device mainly used for a voice call.
Presently technological advancements have made our life easy. Today, with the help of a

It is very useful when it comes to contacting someone in an emergency. It is the best
communication tool as it will help us contact anyone, such as the police or ambulance in
an emergency situation. Today mobile phones are available in various shapes and sizes,

calling, video chatting, text messaging or SMS, multimedia messaging, internet
browsing, email, video games, and photography.

However, it can be misused too depending on the way we use it. It is accepted that
mobile phones are not suitable for children due to several reasons. The first is that
children and young inexperience the functions of mobile phones. They face the problem
of selecting what is good and bad. Many children play games on their mobile phones and
waste money.

Children below 14 years can do without such mobile phones because these phones
come with games, songs, face book, cameras and other facilities which could be used in a
wrong manner. It can be recommended that mobile phones are not a good device for
children at all the time. Therefore, Limited use of mobile phones is advisable for school
children with the guidance of parents.
10. Write a story begin as follows
You walked home from school one afternoon and found the door unlocked and on entering
you were shocked to see the house in total confusion…….…….

It was Monday when I was returning from my school to home. I was very happy as I
got good marks in my test and thinking what my mother would say after seeing my test. On
reaching my house, I rang the bell of the main gate, but there was no response. After two-three
minutes, I tried to push the gate and to my surprise, it easily opened. I was thinking that why
my mother had left the door unlocked.

As I entered, I saw all the things displaced from their original position. My cupboard was
opened and all my clothes were lying out on the bed, the television was on. The water was
also overflowing from the bucket as the tap lay open. I couldn't understand what had happened
in the house. In the morning, I had read about many news of robbery, kidnapping, etc., in
the newspaper. I felt very frightened. I again called out to my mom, but there was no reply. I
searched each and every room, but found nothing except silence. I rang my mother, but I
found that her phone was in the house.

I went to my neighbor, Mr. Raman’s house and asked whether they knew anything,
but I got no information from them. I decided to call my relatives, but just then, a car came to
the door of my house and someone started honking repeatedly. I quickly rushed to the door to
see who it was and to my astonishment, I found my parents standing there. They were equally
surprised to see me. My mother wept bitterly on seeing me and hugged me. She kissed my
forehead repeatedly.

After an initial moment of shock and surprise, I asked them where they had been all this
while. My father mentioned that my mother had received a call from a man who informed her
that a boy in a school uniform, riding a bicycle was knocked down by a car. They got the
number from the identity card he was wearing. They got panicked thinking that it was me who
had met with an accident. In fear and panic leaving things as they were, they rushed to the spot
only to find that the boy had been taken to a nearby hospital. Reaching the hospital, they found
that the boy's condition was serious and an operation was the need of the hour. So the boy was
in the Operating Room fighting against death. They waited till the operation was over and the
doctor came out with a smile and announced that the operation was successful and the boy
will soon recover.

They took a sigh of relief and then rushed back home thinking I would be waiting for
them. When they saw me safe and sound this added to their happiness. After hearing their
story, I told them that my friend and I were playing a prank and I had given my identity card
to him and forgot to take it after school was over. Nevertheless, we were very glad that
everything ended with well. I will never forget that day, as it got Mom, Dad and I closer than
ever.
