OBJECTIVE

The story The Address is all about the human predicament that follows the
war. The story narrates how a daughter goes to her native place in Holland in
search of her mother’s belongings after the war.

THEME

The main theme of the story is the


redemption of the past and moving on. It is
about having the courage of leaving your
"THINGS" behind you and realizing that it
doesn't matter if your memories have a
proof or not because they will linger in
your memory and heart forever.
CHARACTERS

• I- Narrator of the story


• Mrs. S- Mother of the Narrator
• Mrs. Dorling- An old acquaintance of Mrs. S
• Mrs. Dorling’s Daughter
• Mrs. Dorling acts like she doesn’t know her and avoids Mrs. S’ daughter
and the girl tries to get her belongings back but when she finds them,
the objects evokes memories of her old life and now she lives in a small
rented room which has no space for these items, She decides to leave
them all behind and resolves to forget that address and move on.
THE ADDRESS

The story depicts the time when WW 2 was going on ,


Holland was invaded by Germans in 1940. The life of Jews
was hard .
By the middle of 1944 there was complete breakdown of
services in Holland. Many lost life due to war and diseases.
•Mrs Dorling shows no sign of recognition which seems
pretentious
•Mrs Dorling expresses her surprise at the survival of the
Narrator’s visit narrator ,who, she thought had been dead along with her
to 46 Marconi mother in the war
