Carlos Quirino

Carlos Felix Lozada Quirino was a Filipino biographer and historian born in 1910 in Manila. He received his journalism degree from the University of Wisconsin and was known for his early biography of Jose Rizal. Quirino wrote several works on Philippine history as well as biographies of President Manuel Quezon and painter Damian Domingo. He served in the Philippine army before World War 2 and joined the resistance during the Japanese occupation. Later in his career, Quirino became the director of the National Library and the first director of the Ayala Museum. He was recognized as a National Artist of the Philippines for historical literature and died in 1999 at age 89.
